CONTENTMENT

April 27, 2021

Believe it or not, contentment is a spiritual practice. It is not dependent on sunrises or sunsets, or whether you are doing something you love to do. Contentment is an attitude of the spirit, soul, not ego or personality.

Contentment as a way of life is not a high priority in Western cultures. As the personality seeks achievement, goal acquisition, consuming goods and services, feelings arise that there never is enough for you.

Contentment is a mindset that can be fostered and nurtured as part of spiritual practice. As the world opens up and more people become vaccinated, I get a feeling of the world rushing ahead again, in a state of frenzy, even more pronounced than ever before.

The joy of living completely in the here and now fosters deep contentment. Breathing in the moment brings complete contentment. Satisfaction is not contentment, it’s not a feeling of accomplishment from completing a task or a goal. Contentment is a feeling of completion of living here, living now, breathing in, breathing out.

What “I” is it that experiences this form of completion in an aura of contentment? It is the soul that outlives the body and is always here to use as a bridge to enlightenment. As I write these words, I hear the traffic near my home, the breath of my sleeping dog, the inner reality of soul Consciousness ruling my life now.

It was a long time coming, but in reality no time at all. I am ready to be the contentment that belongs to me. OM
