Minding The Store

January 17, 2021

Costa Rica experienced rolling blackouts on January 16, 2021, which meant the first day of our meditation retreat was postponed until next week. We hope the electrical grid cooperates with us going forward.

I continued to read from Ram Dass’ recent Autobiography called “Being Ram Dass.” Reading RD’s stories of psilocybin and LSD experimentation is like going on a personal inner journey.

RD, when he was still Richard Albert, took his first dose of psilocybin mushrooms with Timothy Leary down the street from where RDs parents lived, in the middle of a major snow storm.

After a melodramatic experience regarding the commune’s dog, RD wanted to be alone in the living room to experience the true effects of the healing mushroom. Suddenly, different parts of his personality appeared before him: psychologist, cellist, pilot, etc. and the only thing remaining was his body. That began to disappear before his eyes.

He began to panic. What would he do without his body? Suddenly, a voice from within said “Who is minding the store?”

This experience was the catalyst for the soul work RD immersed himself in for the rest of his life. Our bodies are in constant flux. Cells die and are replaced to such an extent that the body we now inhabit is completely renewed, periodically. We seem to have a changeless part of ourselves who oversees all in an invisible reality, who orchestrates dreams, and near death experiences, and many other unexplained phenomena.

Who IS minding the store? I decided to clean a closet, once Tomaso’s, and found a bag with one psychedelic mushrooms. I ate it. I thought of all the conditions healed by micro-dosing psilocybin: depression, mental illness of all kinds, PTSD, etc. Bill Wilson, founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, credits mushrooms and LSD for stopping the vicious cycle of his alcoholism.

Meanwhile, we took our 7 mile walk and Pearl morphed into my guide and protector.

Disclaimer: in no way do I advocate psychotropics to fix you or anyone else. Keep in mind, I am a child of the 1960’s and that self I once was informs me now. Everything I undertake is done for the greater healing of the whole. OM
