THE PAST IS OVER

November 10, 2021

Every moment is an opportunity to begin again. Yet our society and the thinking of the world is preoccupied with the past. The Judicial System doesn’t take redemption into account, for instance. Most people who’ve been imprisoned are blocked from getting a job again in their lifetime.

When people concentrate only on the past, the people they know, things they see are pigeonholed into an unrelenting cycle of thoughts that stay stuck in the cranium, as my meditation teacher Will Johnson often says.

Around and around it goes, where it stops, no one knows: 66,000 thoughts a day, mostly all of them stuck in the past, sometimes the future, but seldom centered in the present moment.

It’s the here and now where true relief can be found.

Throughout the 2021, Love Serve Remember, the Ram Dass Foundation, offered classes on how to live in the present moment. Ram Dass famously wrote “Be Here Now” in the 1960’s and started a consciousness raising revolution. Young people are now tuning into the Ram Dass legacy. Micro-dosing psychedelics are making a comeback to cure depression, addiction and fear of death.

I caught myself yesterday. My sister and I were analyzing the death of our brother. Paralysis by analysis. We both realized at the same time:

1) When we don’t have answers, the past is recycled over and over again with no answer as to “Why.”

2) The act of constant examination of others doesn’t allow for the people in our lives to change.

When we let go of that which needs releasing, we ourselves are changed. OM
